Sesselja Sigmundsdóttir

Sesselja Hreindís Sigmundsdóttir was born in Hafnarfjörður on the 5th of July 1902. Sesselja was blessed to be able to go to the European mainland and study. She travelled for six years in Denmark, Switzerland and Germany. She studied pedagogy, child nursing and kindergarten management. She was the first Icelander to study how best to care for people with mental challenges. While studying in Germany, Sesselja came to learn about Anthroposophy and the theories of Rudolf Steiner (1861-1925).
